Hospital Wing for Community Rest Home

Marinoto Rest Home is an elderly care facility in Inglewood. It was set up by the community in 1971 and is owned by Inglewood Welfare Society, a charitable organisation.

The facility has added a new hospital wing, at a total project cost of $2.2 million. Now, Marinoto is the only rest home in Inglewood to provide hospital-level care as well as rest home, palliative, respite and day care services. 

Denise Loveridge, Chairperson of Inglewood Welfare Society, said part of the funds came from the community. “The Inglewood Welfare Society did fundraising as well. We raised over $200k ourselves - some of that was donations, but also raffles and fashion parades. We worked very hard. It took us eleven months to raise it but we raised it in the end.”

The 460sqm wing was opened in 2019, and included 10 self-contained rooms, and a lounge and dining room. 

“With the new wing, Inglewood residents can remain in Marinoto for as long as they wish, receiving the required level of care. This is a huge benefit to the residents, their families and the Inglewood community as it means the residents can remain in their local community, rather than having to transfer to another care facility in New Plymouth,” Denise said.

TSB Community Trust provided a grant of $50k to assist with the purchase of furniture and hospital equipment. “The grant has enabled us to finish the project. We needed to furnish each room in the hospital wing. We needed to provide medical equipment too.” 

“When you take into account what we purchased from the Inglewood community and surrounds, it affects a lot of people really. We can now house up to 32 residents, so that affects the families and the extra staff. Feedback has been really positive,” Denise said.
