Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society

The Te Kupenga International Stone Sculpture Symposium is a two yearly event run on the New Plymouth foreshore.

In January 2023, 25 sculptors created artworks using Taranaki andesite stone.

The Te Kupenga Stone Sculpture Society supports international professional artists.

Funding of $30k from Toi Foundation assisted with the costs of supporting the artists and the running of the symposium.

Up to 40,000 visitors came to view the sculpting in progress and engage with the artists during the 3 week period.

The event was also supported by many local businesses who provide free services, allowing Te Kupenga to run the only international-standard symposium in New Zealand.
