Waitangi Day in New Plymouth

The annual Waitangi Day event is a free family-friendly event held in New Plymouth. The New Plymouth District Council run the event to entertain, celebrate and educate the local community.

The event focus is to deepen understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in a safe and accessible environment for Māori and non-Māori. Local iwi and cultural groups are invited to open the event and celebrate the multi-cultural community we live in.

The event is a chance to build networks and community feeling through handson, visual and audio experiences. It is about encouraging a shared understanding and appreciation of community diversity by engaging, listening and learning from each other.

A grant of $5k for three years from TSB Community Trust, as well as funding from The Ministry for Culture and Heritage and the New Plymouth District Council, made this event possible.

The Waitangi Day event is free of charge and accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds and disabilities.
